A New Chapter: What’s Ahead for Anita

Dear Word Café Friends,

If you subscribe to the Nelson Literary Agency newsletter, you know that I have some news. Later this month, I will transition from my current work at NLA to a new stage in my career. Before  joining the publishing industry, I taught English as a Second Language (ESL) in the U.S. and several other countries. In September, I will return to that path as I travel to India for a four-month teaching assignment. I am going to miss everyone at NLA tremendously but I am very excited about this new adventure!

When I return to the U.S., another adventure awaits. In conjunction with teaching ESL, I’ll launch my freelance editing business, which will offer editing and critiquing services to both experienced and aspiring writers in these genres: commercial fiction, literary fiction, science fiction, fantasy, young adult, middle grade, and memoir. I’ll be working with full manuscripts, partial manuscripts, and query letters. In the near future I’ll also begin offering workshops on writing craft and the best routes to publishing success. Although most of those will take place on my home turf in Colorado, I hope to bring them to a wider audience at writers’ conferences, as I’ve often done in the past.

Please note that I will not be able to officially accept projects until my return to Denver in January. Making a change is always a difficult decision, but I’m very excited about this chance to unite the two career paths I love. I look forward to staying closely connected to the publishing industry, my wonderful colleagues, and the amazing authors I’ve met (both published and yet-to-be). And don’t worry—I’m not going anywhere as far as Word Café is concerned. I’ll continue to post regularly, even while I’m abroad, so you’ll see the articles and author interviews you’re used to, plus some new additions, like Q&A with agents and others in the business. I’ll also throw in a few snapshots of life in India so you can see what I’m up to!
